Elisa Lopez Varela is an assistant research professor at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, ISGlobal, in Barcelona, Spain and a clinical researcher with over ten years of experience in pediatric TB/HIV international research.
She trained as a paediatrician in Madrid, Spain and holds a Masters Degree in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health (2007) and a PhD from ISGLobal, University of Barcelona (2016). From 2018-2020, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Desmond Tutu TB Center, Stellenbosch University, Cape Town.
Elisa joined ISGlobal in 2012 and currently leads several international competitively funded projects in the field of infectious diseases, specifically TB, HIV, and COVID-19. Dr. Lopez Varela´s scientific interest focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of TB, particularly in children. She has published over 40 scientific manuscripts.
